"The future is technology-driven and socially conscious."
I’m Benita Besa, an undergraduate student at Duke with a vision to inspire change and drive innovation. At the heart of my journey is a passion for technology, product management, research, and entrepreneurship. I believe these fields are the keystones for engineering a future that not only embraces the rapid advancements of our digital era but also addresses the pressing challenges of our time with sustainable solutions. My diverse experiences reflect my commitment to exploring new frontiers, from teaching fundamental computer skills to conducting research that tackles global challenges. With a focus on user-centered design and data-driven decision-making, I actively seek opportunities to bring together cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and create impactful solutions. With a lens of curiosity and a spirit of collaboration, I aim to contribute to a future where I leverage technology to build a more inclusive and innovative world.
My academic pursuits are intertwined with a strong dedication to social activism and community engagement. Beyond the classroom, I am heavily involved in volunteering initiatives and hold a deep-seated belief in the importance of giving back to our communities. As a member of the United Nations Association (UNA-NCA), I have had the privilege of participating in advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill, lobbying for increased funding and support for the UN's vital humanitarian and peacekeeping missions. In December of 2022, I had the honor of delivering a speech at the annual UNA-NCA Human Rights Awards ceremony held at the U.S. Capitol. This experience was profoundly impactful, allowing me to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and advocate for human rights on a global stage.
